win2000 VM cannot start anymore after uninstall of guestadditions

Description
I have a working win2000 guest, but it has the problem of not remembering the window geometry when the VM is closed down and started again. I know there are related tickets for this issue, and this should be solved by upgrading to a recent version of the guestadditions.
However, this seems not possible for me. After uninstalling the guestadditions the installer insists on rebooting the win2000 guest, which cannot startup again and either crashes or hangs during the win2000 startup stage.
I am running: -virtualbox version 2.1.2 -an old Innotek version of the guestadditons, version 1.5.6r28241 -win2000 with all updates untill today (11-feb-2009)
How should I solve this without reinstalling the win2000 and all my apps again?

In addition to the above mentioned issue:
I tried to do a fresh install of win2000 within VirtualBox v2.1.4 and this works, but shows the same type of scrambled graphical screens during the install stage and when running win2000. However, no win2000 does not crash, and allows to install a recent version of the GuestAdditions. Still these graphical problems that occur before installing the guestadditions seem a serious bug in VirtualBox to me.

This is how win2000 appears during the setup stage, just after installing a fresh copy (so without any guest additions).

This is a copy of the logfile at the moment the above snapshot was taken (so during the setup of win2000 directly after doing a fresh install)

I was able to install and uninstall Guest Additions on Win2000 VM. VM remained perfectly bootable.

Thanks for the feedback. I therefore will close this bug as resolved. jos_dk, please make sure to test this with VirtualBox 2.2.2 (and 2.2.2 guest additions) before you consider to reopen this ticket.

Hi,
thanks for your effort on this one. I think it has to do with the ancient version of the guest additions that I had installed on this wind2000 (it was v1.5.6). I realise that any upgrades or bugfixes to the current guest additions will not fix my old problem. Meanwhile I have created a new win2000 install on VirtualBox v2.2.0 with matching guest additions, and reinstalled my applications. I tried upgrading to VirtualBox v2.2.2 and guest additions v2.2.2, and this works just fine. So I agree the ticket can be closed.
best regards,
Jos.
