This happened when I changed to 5.22 from 4.xx. I upgraded to 5.24, but nojoy. I re-installed 5.24 also, but nojoy. First chance I get I will re-install Win-XP again.

You already attached a couple of log files and a screen shot. The most important log file is still missing: The VBox.log file (VM selector: Machine menu / Show log...).

I re-installed v5.24, from scratch. Everything works normally until I try to run a program called Studio 4.0. This freezes VB as it very slowly executes. I run this same program on wine and it runs full speed. Otherwise, the problem sited at first (above) has not re-appeared.

Because Studio 4.0 is such a problem, I looked through my purchased copies of this software from the 1990s. I have 4 versions:
SESSION..........................9/24/1992 Version 1.07 Copyright 1991, _1992 (16 bit)
RECORDING SESSION................10/2/1994 Version 1.12 Copyright 1991 - 1994 (16 bit)
RECORDING SESSION for Windows 95.9/10/1997 Version 4.0_ Copyright 1991 - 1995 (16 or 32 bit, user choice)
Studio 4.0 for Windows...........9/16/1995 Version 4.0_ Copyright 1995(16 bit)
My initial problem (see above) was with 16 bit Studio 4.0 for Windows. After destroying that WIN XP VM, I recreated the same VM and installed RECORDING SESSION for Windows 95 (32 bit). The results were slightly better after I found that the USB connection system is a bit arcane. I created the VB devices, then added the VM WIN XP drivers to the VM.
Now, once every 5 or six loads/reloads of the VM, the application will not freeze itself during startup. HOWEVER, the VM itself no longer freezes also. I see this is because I made all the required USB connections for MIDI inputs including the M-Audio UNO 1x1 WIN XP drivers. I now have the unusual situation that the application usees the MIDI connection for output also, even though it is supposed to create audio through the speaker system. To add to the fun, sometimes the audio (via speaker output) does work, but not consistently.
VirtualBOX does not present itself in "patchage" or "Cadence" so I am at a loss to detect what is going on.
