VirtualBoxVM hangs when choosing a CD/DVD device

Description
Hi,
whenever I try to choose a virtual CD/DVD disk file or the physical drive with Ubuntu Linux or Windows 7 as guest and Mac OS X 10.7 host, both VirtualBoxVM hangs: When the mouse pointer is over the VirualBoxVM, there’s the spinning beach ball (by Mac OS X) which is still moving, but VirtualBoxVM and thus Linux/Windows don’t react any more. I can only kill VirtualBoxVM. The same applies for “Install Guest Additions…”, which also tries to mount the corresponding ISO file.
So I can’t install the guest additions or mount any physical CD/DVD or disk image unless I choose the desired dis image or drive before I boot the VM. Of course this is very inconvenient, because I can’t change the disk without rebooting the guest system.
Guest type is at least Linux and Windows, so I leave “other” checked. Change this if you feel like.

Seems that there is some bug when the VM should continue to run after the medium was changed (RESUMING => RUNNING state transition). Are you still able to reproduce this problem with VBox 4.1.14?

Hi guys. Anyone else still experiencing this problem? I have the same problem on OS-X 11.4 (Lion), VirtualBox 4.1.18 and a Windows 7 VM. Last message in log is "Changing the VM state from 'SUSPENDED' to 'RESUMING'".

I am experiencing the same problem on OSX 10.8.5 running VirtualBox 4.3.0 producing the attached log.

I am also encountering this problem with a Win7 x32 VM. When I attempt to [Choose a Virtual Disk image iso] the VM lands in a perpetual waiting state. I have to terminate the session by closing the window. I should also note that when viewing the VM settings (while frozen), the settings menu freezes.
I have yet to test this with other OS VM's

The same issue in 4.3.20. Nothing useful in log, it is just empty after the virtual machine window is closed. Windows 7 x64 host, Windows 7 x86 guest. It seems as there is connection to 32 bit guests. Does not happen with x64 guests.

alane316, maybe this was already fixed. So you have the same problem? Which VBox version? Could you attach a VBox.log file of such a VM session when this happens?
